Furniture Storage Tips

People have their own reasons as to why they want to store furniture pieces. It may be that they moved into a smaller house in Jacksonville, FL while their home is being renovated. It may also be that a family member gave them some quality furniture, but it does not fit in the current interior design of their home. It may also be that a child goes away to college and they want to turn their room into an extra office. Whatever the reason may be, furniture storage is something that we cannot escape.  We are all bound to experience it sooner or later. Fortunately, there are some tips on how furniture storage can be a breeze for us. Here are some of them.

  1. Store furniture in an area that is not prone to dust, moisture, and extreme changes in temperature. It is not a good idea to store furniture pieces in attics and basements. These are very disastrous for wood, fabric, and metal. It might be a better idea to find a self storage facility in Jacksonville, Fl that has climate-controlled units. These units are kept at a constant temperature and humidity level. To be kept in constant conditions is important for wood furniture because wood expands or contracts with moisture levels. This can distort and weaken wood furniture.
  2. Clean furniture before moving it in a storage facility. Make sure to wipe down hard surfaces to remove dust. It is also advisable to use fabric cleaner on sofas and mattresses.
  3. Disassemble furniture (if you can) in order to save more space in the self storage unit.
  4.  Pack furniture pieces closer together. Just in case you will be storing lots of furniture inside one self storage unit.
  5. Wrap furniture pieces in bubble wraps or moving pads to avoid accumulating scratches. Wrap table legs individually to protect them better.
These are some of the basics of furniture storage. The best advice of all is of course to find a self storage facility that offers the best climate-control services in town. With a climate-controlled self storage unit, you know that your furniture will be stored in conditions similar, if not better than, those in your home.

  1. That's a good idea to clean the furniture before you store it. I want to make sure that it stores well, so we can use it later. We are moving to a new place and it won't fit all of our old stuff. I'll have to look into getting a climate controlled unit. That way there won't be as much moisture and other problems. http://www.removalman.com.au/storage/
