Mattresses are designed to provide
the support and comfort you need to relax and rest. If you have had your mattress
for a while, you may be wondering if it is time to buy a new one. It has been
said that people sleep better and suffer less back and body pain on newer beds.
They do not experience stress and thus increase the quality of sleep as the
surface relieves pressure on joints and other areas of the body.
The most popular and traditional mattress
is the innerspring mattress. A complete spring mattress consists of the box
spring base, the mattress, springs, and padding layers. In each type, metal
coils comprise the support system.
There are several types of spring
systems that mattresses use. Knowing the quality is often represented by the
gauge and number of coils. On top of the coils, manufacturers use foams,
padding, and stuffing to provide comfortable sleeping surface. Pocket springs
are small individual springs in a fabric pocket, hence the name. The springs
are usually joined together, either by being tied through the center of one spring
to the next one, or by joining one pocket to the next. You will feel as though
you are lying in the mattress rather than on it as each spring gives individual
support and the weight of your body is evenly distributed, lessening pressure
specifically at the shoulder and hip areas.
Latex is another useful product
for mattress manufacturers. Latex allows the mattress to match entirely to the
contour of your body and gives excellent back support and comfort. Another is
the new type of foam called memory foam. It has its own individual feel and
molds to your body using your weight and temperature. It therefore follows the
shape of the user and reverts to its original shape when the weight and
pressure is removed. It has good pressure relieving properties, is
hypo-allergenic, and is available in a variety of qualities and depths.
Different feels, or firmness can be achieved by alternating the thickness and
density of the visco elastic used.
Shopping for a new mattress in
today’s market can be quite the experience, with dozens of brands, models,
styles, and technologies you can choose from. It is then best to make the right
decisions especially when budget is an issue.
