Five Kitchen Remodeling Tips that You Must Follow

Kitchen remodeling is quite an enjoyable experience especially when you are the home owner. Some home owners may not have the opportunity to completely remodel their kitchen on their own, but there is nothing more satisfying than enjoying a kitchen you designed yourself!

So if you are thinking of doing a DIY kitchen remodeling sometime in the near future, here are some tips that will make your life a lot easier.

1. Plan ahead.

When remodeling a kitchen, always put function first.  Most interior designer and professional kitchen remodeling contractors agree that while there is no ideal kitchen shape, the sink, fridge, and cook top must always form a triangle with no more than 6 feet between each for ease of movement. So whether you are planning a U-shaped, L-shaped, or corridor style kitchen, always keep this functionality in mind.

2. Provide ample room for storage.

Perhaps one of biggest mistakes people make when remodeling their kitchen is not providing enough storage space. It is important to maximize every nook and cranny inside your kitchen. For instance, why leave a gap on top of overhead kitchen cabinets when you can just place them right up to the ceiling instead? Other storage tricks you may want to use are deep drawers for easier access to pots and pans, as well as enough storage for appliances that would otherwise clutter up your kitchen countertop.

3. Place lights wisely.

In the kitchen, you do not want the light to be coming behind you as it will cast a shadow on the workspace. Light must be positioned in such a way that it will fall in front of you. In doing so, working in the kitchen will be as efficient as it can be.

4. Make room for appropriate power sources.

Kitchens need appropriate power sources for relocated or new appliances. Plan gas or electric lines early. Also, make sure you measure appliances to ensure that they reach appropriate power sources and that they fit comfortably into allocated spaces and. For instance, a dishwasher that is crammed in could push up against the hose and will not drain properly.

5. Choose countertops carefully.

There is no such thing as too much counter space. You need to have ample counter space to be able to work efficiently in the kitchen. Choose a countertop that is easy to work on and easy to maintain.

These five kitchen remodeling tips will surely help you as you redesign your kitchen. Happy kitchen remodeling!
