Getting to a speeding ticket hearing can be
uncomfortable for most drivers. It can be intimidating and confusing and if
you’re like most people, you tend to panic especially during your first time.
Coming in prepared and aware of what questions are to be asked and what answers
are to be said will help you get through the day easily. There are three common court tips that most traffic
attorneys start with. First, know what type of hearing you are attending;
second, research and know exactly what you were charged with; and third, get
there early and listen to everything being said.
The speed limit is the absolute maximum, which most
likely 30 miles per hour max. However in some circumstances, speed limits
increase and decrease. When you go over said limit, then you are most likely a
candidate for a traffic court hearing. Most of the time, it’s worth retaining a
traffic attorney because court can be all day long, and takes up most of your
day. You are required to appear and sometimes, you don’t know what your defense
would be.
First of all, keeping calm and having the right
attitude during the arrest can be a huge factor. Be respectful and polite at
all times. Do what the officer asks. The officer has no idea who you are or
what your intentions are. So if you are on your best behavior, you may get off
with just a warning. Never admit guilt because it could haunt you since the
officer is probably taking notes. Traffic tickets may not be much of a big deal
but the evidences could be their way to prove you’re fault. As you ask help
from a traffic attorney, you are going to be oriented on your plea before the
jury. A not guilty verdict means you don’t have to pay the traffic ticket fine
or deal with any penalties, while a guilty verdict means you’re responsible for
all the related ticket fines and penalties. From here, your traffic attorney
will then help you file an appeal.
Lastly, showing up a little early will give you the
opportunity to get a good look on the surrounding and be settled to lessen
anxiety. There will be a lot of cases before yours so there is a good chance
you might hear another attorney saying something about a case similar to yours,
which would help you a lot.
