Is It Time for A Flush Transmission Service?

Your car is one of your most important possessions because it gets you from one place to another easily. Compare this to public commuting, you’ll be saving plenty of time to travel from home to any other place. Thus, it is very important to make sure that your car is always in good condition to avoid any travelling inconveniences along the way.

This being said, you need proper maintenance and one of which is the maintenance of your transmission. You should know when it’s time to get a transmission service done. A common service is called the transmission flush. It is a preventative maintenance procedure to keep the health of a car.

A flush transmission service is a procedure where all transmission fluid is flushed or removed from your car’s engine. A special machine is used to flush out all the grime from the old oil. Transmission flush can also remove sludge and debris, cleansing your transmission. After the flush, 100 percent new transmission oil is applied and allowed to run through your car’s engine.

Many car owners ask about the effectiveness of a flush transmission service. Some say that flushing a car with improper equipment will do more harm than good, making the process ineffective, so to speak. Why? As it turns out, the improper equipment may cause the grime and sludge to let lodged somewhere else. Hence, the old transmission oil is not completely flushed from your car’s system. Also, with the wrong machine used, valves and seals may be damaged during the procedure.

Nonetheless, there is no question that if a transmission flush is performed by a professional automotive repair company, the procedure is effective. The transmission flush will clean your engine from any residue, which in turn will improve the performance of your engine as well as its lifespan.

Then there is the question of which one is better, a transmission flush or change oil. A transmission flush is more expensive than change oil, but there are cases when you need to do one over the other. What is the difference anyway?

A change oil service drains the oil as well, but there is no machine used for this, only gravity. Thus, all residues and contaminants are not removed. It is sad to say that only 20 to 40 percent of the grime and sludge are removed compared to a transmission flush where 100 percent of the oil debris are removed.
The question of what transmission service to take will depend on the current state of your transmission oil. This should be checked by the car expert. But for the most part, a change oil is done more often compared to the transmission flush.
