Home Storage Tips

You get to buy things over the years. Some are even given by your ancestors. Because of this, waking up in a cluttered home is not impossible. The solution? Home storage.

Home storage is your basement away from your home. You lock the unit, you keep the key, and you can access your unit as often as you need to without any problems. There’s nothing more important than peace of mind when it comes to storing your belongings.

Home storage is great for either long or short term. It is designed to have different sized such as closet-sized unites that could hold the contents of a five-room house, drive-ups for ATVs and SUVs, walk-ins and elevator access.

If you are on your way to renting a home storage unit, here are some tips that may help you out:

1.       You can begin with packing your items properly to save you time and ensure your goods are maintained in the best possible condition. Start by packing and gathering as many boxes that you think you will need. Tape, markers, and other packing materials are also essential.

2.       Avoid using printed papers to avoid rubbing off of ink when packing.

3.       The use of uniform boxes is best for easy stocking; however, these boxes are not advisable for knick knacks.

4.       Stack heavier boxes on the bottom and lighter boxes on top.

5.       When packing appliances, make sure all refrigerators and freezers are thoroughly dry. Store them with the door ajar so air can circulate inside. However, make sure that the doors of other types of appliances are securely shut.

6.       For beddings and linens, use dresser drawers when possible to store blankets, pillows and sheets.

7.       Home storage is all about maximizing space so take advantage of drawers for packing many light household items such as photos and clocks.

8.       If items are fragile, be sure to use towels or there padding to protect them from breakage.

9.       Invert light chairs so they are “seat-to-seat.” There’s usually space between the legs for small, lightweight items.

10.   For tables, take the legs off tables when possible and wrap separately. This prevents possible damage and also saves space. Tape the hardware to the underside of the table, so it is not misplaced.
