How Do You Use a Tobacco Grinder?

A tobacco grinder is used to grind tobacco into shredded and fine cut tobacco. This is used when you have thicker cut tobacco that you can’t easily shove into your tobacco pipes. Instead of grinding them using a knife or a mortar and pestle, using the grinder is the most convenient way to do it.

The tobacco grinder is usually made of aluminum. The small cylinder shreds the tobacco into strips. It is composed of two grinders with sharp and interlocking teeth and a collection chamber where the shredded tobacco is stored. Once the tobacco has been ground, you can now put it in hand-rolled cigarettes or in your pipe.

To grind tobacco, all you need is loose tobacco and your tobacco grinder. Here’s the following steps you need to do:

·         Separate the two halves of grinder, then put a pinch of tobacco in a 4, 8, 12 o’clock positions and press the teeth of both grinders.
·         Close the grinder by firmly pressing on the lid and the bottom part. Note that the grinder will not close if the loose tobacco is gathered in the middle.
·         Now hold the grinder and twist the lid, just like how you’d twist a pepper grinder. Just twist and twist until the lid turns smoothly. When turning is smooth, do one complete turn clockwise and one complete turn counter-clockwise to make sure that the tobacco is completely shredded.
·         Gently tap the grinder against a hard surface to put all shredded tobacco in the collection chamber.
·         To collect the tobacco from the collection chamber, just remove the lid and bottom half of the tobacco grinder.
·         Your tobacco is now ready to use.

There are tobacco grinders that have two collection chambers. The first one holds the shredded tobacco while the other collection chamber, positioned below the first one, stores the fine particles of the tobacco which is used as snuff.

You may be wondering if there’s a difference between herb grinders and tobacco grinders. Well, there’s not much difference. After all, tobacco is a herb too. Both types of grinder serve the same purpose. But if you’re going to use the grinder plainly for tobacco, then you should buy a tobacco grinder. If you plan to use the grinder for your kitchen herbs, you can buy either.

To keep your grinder teeth sharp, talk to the dealer about proper maintenance of your grinder. This will lengthen the lifespan of your grinder.
