PREPARING YOUR MOTORCYCLE FOR STORAGE

Your drive can be very smooth during the summer season, but things are going to change when winter season comes. Ice and snow on the road is not that friendly to your motorcycle and cold weather will be harsh to your fluids. If winter is coming, you should brace up and be ready to fix your motorcycle storage. The way you keep your motorcycle when you’re driving it is also needed in keeping your bike hyped in your motorcycle storage.

1. Before putting your bike in your motorcycle storage, you should put some fresh fuel in the tank. A good amount of fuel stabilizer is needed to avoid deterioration. A deteriorated fuel would leave layers of dirt or residue in your carburettor—and if unattended, might cause fouling and big problems during start up. After pumping your motorcycle with a good fuel and some stabilizers, turn the engines on and let the fuel cycle through your bike. It would put good protection on the internal parts of your bike while in the motorcycle storage. Gear up now that the -ber months are here!

2. Before putting your bike in your motorcycle storage, you should refill or replace your entire bike’s fluid. It is important to have the proper type of brake fluid, coolant fluid, and clutch fluid to avoid mishaps. You can either fill your fluids up or totally drain them before putting your bike into motorcycle storage mode. Checking on your anti-freeze fluid is important especially if you’re in a place where the temperature usually reaches sub-zero. Proper up-keeping on your anti-freeze fluid would prevent engine problems. Proper lubrication is also needed to avoid moisture accumulation and rusting on your wires and metallic internal bike parts. It is also important to change your engine oil. Old engine oil can cause corrosion and damage to other internal parts through the course of your motorcycle storage mode.

3. There are motorcycle types which experience battery drain during storage—considering that the ignition is off. To ensure that you are conserving your battery properly, you can remove the battery from your motorcycle. If you find removing your battery from your motorcycle is impractical, you can leave a fully charged battery intact to your bike. You just have to ensure to charge your battery monthly while you’re on motorcycle storage mode.

There are more things to consider before storing your motorcycle but the above are among the simplest yet the most important. You also have to ensure that your tires are in good condition—maximum volume, correct standing position, and rotation. You can also wax metallic surfaces to avoid rusting. Ultimately, you should pick the perfect motorcycle storage space.
