PROTECT YOUR APPLIANCES WITH ELECTRICAL SURGE PROTECTORS

A spike in voltage can be harmful to appliances and electrical devices in your home. An increase in voltage above an appliance's normal operating voltage can cause an arc of electrical current within the appliance. The heat generated in the arc causes damage to the electronic circuit boards and other electrical components.

How do electrical surge protectors help?
Standard electrical outlets don’t have any protection against power surges and spikes. Electrical surge protectors are generally made and sold in the form of power strips, although you can also buy single-outlet electrical surge protectors that sit against the socket and provide a single, protected outlet. You can also pick up travel electrical surge protectors, which are small, offer, fewer outlets, and will fit in a laptop bag.

What should I remember before buying an electrical surge protector?
Don’t assume that every electrical surge protector is six or eight ports. Some of them, sport 12 ports, well-spaced so you can use them all. Buying the right number of ports will make sure you don't have to daisy chain electrical surge protectors—something we'll get to in a moment. A good licensed electrician would surely give you every detail you need when working with electrical surge protectors.  However, it can be tricky to assess if your electrician is legitimate without the right questions. But the good news is this doesn’t have to be complex. Start by checking that the individual is qualified and whether they choose to be a registered member of one of the Government approved schemes.  Choosing a licensed electrician means you will get additional protections should something go wrong.

Electrical surge protectors are easy to forget about when everything seems to be going fine, and they would be completely useless in a perfect world where the electrical system never malfunctioned. Some electrical surge protectors warranty the devices connected to it for some amount of damages if a power surge does get through. Check to see what's covered (and what isn't), and how you can file a warranty claim if the electrical surge protector fails.
