Pregnancy massage is also done to improve blood circulation. There are specific exercises that can be done onto you to ensure proper blood circulation. Pregnancy massage may also involve reflexology. Reflexology is a massage therapy targeting large regions of the body thru massaging certain areas. Pregnancy therapy can also involve cranial sacral therapy.

Pregnancy massage should be done with the guide of an expert. For a massage therapy to be done properly, proper body positioning should be considered. For example, a woman that is at least 22 weeks pregnant should not be lying on her back. It is dangerous for the condition of the baby and the mother to undergo massage therapy while the mother is lying on her back. Because of the weight of the baby, some blood vessel may be pressed causing blood circulation to be impeded. This is crucial because blood circulation for the mother and the unborn baby may be decreased. For reflexology, it should be considered that there are areas that can’t be massaged. For example, the area which represents the vagina and uterus is the area between the heel and the ankle. If one applies massage therapy, reflexology, or acupressure on that area, the pregnancy may be put at risk—or worse, can lead to early labor.

With proper application and guidance, pregnancy massage can give many advantages. Swelling in some body parts can be reduced by pregnancy massage. Lessening sciatic pain and loosening of contracting muscles may also be the benefits of massage therapy. Generally, massage therapy, specifically pregnancy massage helps in easing muscular discomfort, increasing oxygen circulation in the blood, and strengthening of immunity. Pregnancy massage has many benefits for mothers as long as it is done by experts and professionals.
