An automatic transmission creates a lot of internal
heat through friction: the friction of the fluid churning inside the torque
converter, friction created when the clutch plates engage, and the normal friction
created by gears and bearings carrying their loads. Thus, when the fluid heats
up, it is then time to think about transmission flush as an option.
1.
It
prevents lock up. As said earlier, when the fluid heats up, the
transmission tend to have a “lock jaw.” It would then be twice as inconvenient
because the lock happens when your vehicle’s transmission gets so hot that your
vehicle simply shuts down. It no longer runs. Doing transmission flush when
your fluid turns black can prevent such from happening to your car.
2.
It
maintains perfect temperature. Dirty transmission fluid and higher than
normal transmission fluid temperatures along with filter restriction are the
number one causes of transmission failures. This is why most auto shops
recommend regular transmission flush to avoid overheating due to blocked
circulation. The towing of heavy loads with your vehicle adds extra
stress to your transmission. This is why it is suggested that before any
such activity you see your mechanic and possibly have a transmission cooler
installed to decrease the fluid temperatures.
3.
It
gets rid of leaky seals and putrid odors. A well- maintained machine is
one whose owner regularly checks the transmission fluid levels. Transmission
fluids should be bright red and should not be putrid and rancid. If your
transmission fluid level is low, or the color is right, it’s time to do
transmission flush.
However, it is on the top of the list for you to
keep an eye on who or what transmission company could be of great service. So
you need to know this before you agree to a transmission flush. Look in your
owner's manual. Some manufacturers call for their own type of transmission
fluid and warn that using other types could cause damage. Moreover, some
automatic transmissions have filters that should be cleaned or replaced when doing
a transmission flush. Make sure the repair facility is using the correct fluid
and procedures for your vehicle.
