HOW TO RELIEVE HERNIATED DISCS?

Having a herniated disc can be present for a long time without being noticed physically. It may not cause pains or irregularities in the physical appearance of the body. As it progresses and left untreated, it may eventually cause pains and severe back problems. Herniated disc may happen to you because of over fatigue, repeated and hard-core physical activities, or it can develop through time. Though severe cases of herniated disc should be treated surgically, mild cases can be relieved through home remedy.

1. Consult an expert, a chiropractor. Before doing anything, it is important to talk to an expert to effectively assess your condition. A proper diagnosis from a chiropractor is needed to have the right home procedures. Consulting a chiropractor will also avoid further severity of the herniated disc. Chiropractors would initially recommend having a bed rest.

2. Ask the chiropractor if there are any pain-relieving or anti-inflammatory medications that can reduce the pain. Herniated disc causes pains that may need low dosage of pain killer or even high dosage of muscle relaxer. Your chiropractor may suggest having steroid injection to help with the inflammation at the spinal area.

3. Constantly connect to a physical therapist to have exercise plans. Exercising may help in relieving herniated disc. A 30-minute walk, stretching your core, and having cardio exercises help improve blood circulation. Good blood circulation ensures good oxygen flow throughout the body. After exercising, it is also advised to have a cold compress around the area of the herniated disc.

4. Modify your physical activities to ensure that you are not putting much strain on your back. Total bed rest for long periods of time is highly advised by chiropractors. Avoiding lifting of substantially heavy objects would greatly help relieve herniated disc.

5. Eat right and stay fit. With herniated disc, it is not advisable to be overweight to avoid further damage to your spine. Excess weight may cause more strain along your column. If you are overweight, chiropractors would highly suggest to control and monitor your eating habit to enable you to drop some weights. This can be done by eating the right food and having good exercise.
