HOT STONE MASSAGE VS. DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE ON BACK PAINS

For most of us, the answer is probably 'yes', since massage is non-invasive and considered very low risk for most people. In addition to physical benefits, certain types of massage such have been shown to help psychologically via relaxation and increased production of 'feel good' chemicals that the body naturally produces (endorphins)--helpful for people with both acute and chronic back pains. There are two most commonly recommended type of massage therapy, let’s see how they differ.

Techniques
Hot stone massage vs. Deep tissue massage differs much in this aspect.  Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement. To do this, the massage therapist uses massage oil and often uses direct deep pressure. Muscles must be relaxed in order for the therapist to reach the deeper musculature.  On the other hand, hot stone massage is added to classic massage to enhance the effects of the massage. The hot stones help muscles relax and cause hyperemia, increased blood flow to the area where the stones are placed. Therapists place stones along the back, on the hands and even between the toes. They use larger flat stones to stroke along the length of muscles.

Benefits
A hot stone massage vs. deep tissue massage however is more beneficial on both physical and psychological levels. Always check with your doctor before getting a hot stone massage; individuals with certain conditions--including pregnant women and people with high blood pressure--are advised to avoid this type of therapy. While all types of massage can help relieve pain caused by tense muscles, stiff joints or injuries, a hot stone massage may provide greater relief due to the intense nature of the massage. Because the hot stones allow the massage therapist to penetrate deeper, you may find that a hot stone massage leaves you feeling physically better than a Swedish or deep-tissue massage that does not incorporate heat. Deep tissue massage focuses more on the nutrients and balance which helps by relaxing muscles, removes waste products, increases oxygen and blood flow into your muscles. This helps your body remove toxins and metabolic wastes from sore and overworked muscles. Allowing them to recover from more quickly by circulating oxygen rich blood into the working muscles.
