PUBLIC SELF-STORAGE: MAKING MOVING A LOT EASIER

When it comes time to look for a self-storage facility, there are several things to take into consideration. If you are planning to store your items, they must be valuable to you, and you want them to be safe and secure at all times! Be sure to make your decision on the entire storage experience, not on price alone.

Location. If you need to regular access to your stored belongings then going for a storage facility that is over an hour‘s drive away makes little sense. But, if you know that you will not need access and you can save a few pounds by storing with a firm outside of your location, then this, on the other hand, makes perfect sense. You need to really consider how local you need your public self-storage facility to be, as if you can save money by thinking outside of your local area and you do not want to frequently visit, then this is worth looking into.

Needs and Wants. Figure out the best public self-storage option for your needs. Storage facilities usually offer a drive-up option where you drive your car or truck right up to your spot and can pretty easily transfer stuff into the space. Some public self-storage units are housed in a building with several levels. Be prepared to bring stuff in and out with a trolley and a freight elevator. And then there are the portable containers that get delivered to your home. Those are typically used for temporary needs such as home renovations.

Security. Annoying it may seem, but you want to make sure your stuff is safe when you leave it in a storage facility. Is there a fence that surrounds the entire property? There should be and it should be in good repair, with no holes, cuts or broken poles. Is there a locked gate with keypad entry to access the storage facility? This keeps visitors to only those who have a storage unit at the storage facility since an access code is required to enter through the gate.

Efficient Staff. Does the manager of the storage facility stand up and greet you as you walk into the office? A friendly property manager is key to having a great storage experience. You want someone who listens to you, treats you as the most important person to them at that moment and has knowledge about the property and the industry.
