CHIROPRACTORS: HEALING THAT STUBBORN HEADACHE

Headaches are very common and because they happen regularly, often people refer to them as "just a normal headache.” However, headaches usually happen for a reason. For many people chiropractic treatment can be a very effective way of treating headaches.

Two Types of Headaches
Different types of headaches require different types of treatment. Here are two types of headaches that a chiropractic treatment can help you with.
1.       Migraine headaches. Migraine headaches are caused by a constriction of the blood vessels in the brain, followed by a dilation of blood vessels. During the constriction of the blood vessels there is a decrease in blood flow, which is what leads to the visual symptoms that many people experience.
2.       Tension headaches. These headaches usually begin slowly and gradually and can last for minutes or days, and tend to begin in the middle or toward the end of the day. Tension headaches are often the result of stress or bad posture, which stresses the spine and muscles in the upper back and neck.

How a Chiropractor can Help
A chiropractor will help to understand what causes most headaches. Your spine protects your nervous system which starts with the brain and becomes the spinal cord. When the vertebrae in your neck are unable to move properly, it irritates or puts pressure on the nerves in that area. That can cause headaches. To correct this problem (called a subluxation) a chiropractor gently adjusts the vertebrae. Since most headaches are caused by subluxations, they will soon disappear.

What to Expect During the Adjustment
During a typical chiropractic adjustment, your chiropractor places you in specific positions to treat affected areas. Often, you're positioned lying facedown on a specially designed, padded chiropractic table. The chiropractor uses his or her hands to apply a controlled, sudden force to a joint, pushing it beyond its normal range of motion. You may hear popping or cracking sounds as your chiropractor moves your joints during the treatment session.
