Is it Time to Replace Your Garage Door Rollers?

Replacements and repairs for garage door rollers are easy for a service man. Not a whole lot can go wrong with your garage door rollers unless you decide to take them all off at once and your garage door falls apart. Deal with them one at a time and you should not have any trouble.

Determining the right type of garage door rollers for your garage door tracks can be a little confusing, especially when you do not know what you need to look for when it comes to garage door rollers. To simplify things up, there are two primary things you need to be aware of; first are the actual dimensions of the roller, and second is the purpose that you will be using the door for.

Garage door rollers aren’t complex, although they do break a lot and cause problems. The garage door rollers are basically a piece of plastic and a stem. The first thing that breaks on a new garage door is the garage door rollers. Replacing garage door rollers is a difficult job because the bottom roller is connected to the tension. When replacing the bottom roller, be sure to just pop out the roller with a hammer rather than loosen the bolts, usually, when the springs of the bearing plates go bad, it is time to change the rollers.

Identifying the type of rollers is the next step. The steel rollers are good for wooden doors in the beginning because they can handle a lot of stress. The problem is they don’t have a bushing to keep the rollers together. Basically, what happens is the stem starts to come apart from the head and the roller begins to roll of center. The best type of garage door rollers is the nylon bearing; these have bushings that stop the roller from coming apart. Since they are made out of nylon they are very quiet. One of the other good aspects of this roller is the circumference will never get smaller over the years.

Although all of these materials are important to take into context, the number of cycles and the weight ratings that are provided for each garage door roller can determine whether you roller will last ten years or ten weeks.
