The Course
Because
there is a rising need for range safety instructors and officers, the
National Rifle Association developed the Basic Range Safety Officer
Course for people 21 years old and above to satisfy the need to have
well-trained people oversee and conduct safe range operations. It is a
nine-hour course that consists of classroom time and practical exercises
conducted on a range.
The NRA Certified Range Safety Officer course consists of:
- Ensuring the range is safe to use
- Conducting range safety briefings
- Handling ammunition malfunctions safely
- Handling firearms malfunctions safely
- Supervising safety aspects of shooting activities
- Handling range emergency procedures
- Following the Standard Operation Procedures of firing ranges (SOP)
- Functions and responsibilities of a Range Safety Officer (RSO)
Passing the Course
The
NRA Certified Range Safety Officer course aims to produce individuals
who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing,
conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range
operations. After the course, candidates will be subjected to a written
exam. They must receive 90 percent or better on this exam to pass the
course and be certified.
