Should You Get Uplighting for Your Wedding?

images
In the past two years, uplighting in weddings have grown in popularity. But, not all couples will consider getting uplights because it can really get expensive. The wedding is expensive as it is. But for those with an extra budget, getting uplights can dramatically change the appearance, ambiance and mood of the wedding venue.

In Tampa FL, if you decide to get some uplights, you should be prepared to pay for the additional electricity cost, the special lighting company and the hours of preparation to get the lights done. Uplighting used to be only for the wealthy, but with the recent technology in LED lighting, it has become more affordable for everyone.

Traditional Incandescent Uplights

One of the most basic wedding uplights is the traditional incandescent uplights. These are very commonly used in weddings. The fixtures use a white high wattage halogen bulb. And then a colored filter called gel that is put in front of the bulb to change the color of the light emitted.

Using traditional incandescent uplighting has its ups and downs. Among the other types of uplights, this one is the most affordable. With the right planning, your wedding can achieve awesome lighting despite a limited budget.

On the other hand, you must be prepared to pay more for the electricity consumption. A traditional incandescent uplight fixture uses a 300-watt bulb. Other fixtures may require a 500-watt bulb. Not only will there be more electricity consumption, but there’s a risk of blowing the fuse due to the heavy electrical load. When this happens, your wedding venue will black out for at least 20 minutes or so. That means no music, no lights, no air-conditioning and etc.

Another possible issue with this type of uplighting is the presence of extension cords, wires and tape. Traditional incandescent uplights need to be plugged, which lessens the possibilities of placing the lights all over the room. Lighting designs will be limited.

While there are risks in using this type of uplight, you should also consider the ease of setting up. Traditional incandescent uplighting is the easiest to install. There will be reduced costs and less preparation time.
Every wedding is different and it is best that you talk to an event specialist about the right uplights for the event. Often times, it will depend on the ambiance you’re going for, the preparation time, the budget and the most suitable one for the venue.
