Coloring your Hair Through Foils

index

Hair styling may seem simple, but it is not. A simple mistake may end in a disaster.  So before you dye your hair and apply the foils without it being a nightmare, take the time to study the different techniques this method entails.

What are Hair Foils?

Hair foils are used to ensure that the color is applied to only the area of your hair that you want to color. Hair foils can be purchased in rolls and strips. This makes it easier to apply color on one’s hair.

Choosing the Right Color

You need to choose your hair dye carefully and ensure that the color will look good with your skin tone, and natural hair color.  If it is your first time to use foils alone, choosing a semi permanent color is highly advisable. Salon professionals can easily reverse the process should you do any mistake.

The Process

Gather all the materials and ensure that they are close to you is important so the coloring process will run smoothly. Apply protection to your scalp, ears, nape, and hairline. Afterwards, do a strand test on your hair first to ensure that you are not allergic to the dye.

Once you are done checking if you are allergic to the dye or not, drape a towel around your shoulders and put on your gloves. Tear the foil strips to three inches wide. Allow more foils if your hair is thick and you want to apply more color to your hair.

Section your hair into one inch wide layers using a tint brush. Begin at the back of your head and work your way to the front. Use clips to keep the sectioned hair in place.

Place the foil underneath the section of hair which needs coloring. Slowly brush this section with the hair dye. Make sure that it is completely covered from roots to the end. Once done, fold the foil to cover that section.

Repeat the process until all the sections of your hair is covered.

Final Touches

Allot ample time to let the color settle on your hair. Different hair color brands have different time frames so make sure you follow the instructions on the box. Wash your hair properly and deeply condition it to keep everything in place.
