Boxing Workout: The Best Exercise Out There

index

For people who are looking for an intense cardio workout, you should take on boxing. A boxing workout is believed to be one of the best exercises that conditions the whole body. Just by going to the boxing gym and having a session, you are improving your endurance and cardiovascular fitness through the high-intensity and calorie-burning workout.

If this is your first time to go to the boxing gym and have a workout session, you need two basic things: boxing gloves and wrist wraps. Bringing a jump rope is optional but recommended. If you want to continue your boxing workout at home, you can get yourself a punching bag. But be warned, don’t just punch into the punching bag without knowing the proper form. You might end up with an injury.

Learning the Basics

The benefit of starting your boxing workout in a boxing gym is that you get to learn the basics from professional trainers. It is important that you are able to develop the right stance, learn the technique and learn the proper form and way to punch. Learning the basics of boxing helps prevent muscle strains and injuries.

For the proper stance, keep your feet at shoulder-width apart and stand sideways to the opponent. Your subordinate side should face the target (left side if you’re right-handed) and your dominant hand should be placed back (right hand if you’re right-handed). Knees should be slightly bend and make sure your weight is evenly distributed on both feet.

For the proper arm and hand position, keep the hands at chin level. The hands should make gentle fists. Position the subordinate hand at least 6 to 8 inches from the dominant hand (punching hand). As much as possible, your arms should be near your body.

Beginner Workout Routine

Beginners should always begin with a short workout that lasts 20 minutes long (maximum). A boxing workout is taxing on a body especially for beginners who aren’t used to the workout. The workout should begin with a warm-up by doing 3 minutes of jumping rope and 1 minutes of jumping jacks. After the warm-up, do stretching exercises.

Depending on the boxing workout routine the trainer has planned for you, you may begin to start punching the bag with jabs and cross punches. The trainer might ask you to do a combination of punches, jogging in place and some jumping ropes.

Once you learn the techniques and routine, you can start working out at home. Nevertheless, the boxing gym is always a good place to start because you get to be around fellow beginners and maybe, have the chance to see some professional boxers in actions too.
