WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF POOL HEATERS?

Pool maintenance can be a hard project to do. It involves meticulous planning and creativity. You have to ensure that you will be having the most-value adding maintenance for your pool. Sometimes, to upgrade their pool, people add pool heaters. Pool heaters are common equipment to add especially if fall or winter is coming. Here are the types of pool heaters that can be helpful in doing your pool maintenance.

The first type of pool heater that you may consider for your pool maintenance is the electric resistance heater. Its name implies that electricity is used to produce heat. The process involves heating a resistor by passing a current through it. By convection, water receives the heat from the resistor while the resistor cools. This cyclic process goes on as long as you want the heating process to happen. Electric resistance pool heater needs high supply of energy. It is better to use electric resistance pool heaters when you have a smaller pool like portable spa, bathtubs, or therapy tubs/pools. The main advantage of electric resistance pool heater is its cost and energy efficiency. Among the three types, electric resistance pool heaters are the least expensive to purchase—but installation and operational costs are different matters. Also, since it uses electricity, it does not emit harmful gases or by-products thus making it environmentally friendly.

The second type of pool heater is the gas heater. This type is advantageous, especially if you are aiming for the greatest upgrade in your pool maintenance project, because it can heat your pool quickly. Gas heaters involve chemical combustion of propane or a natural gas. The heat produced from the burning process is conducted through copper coils. The coils are in contact with the water thus heating the surrounding water. Gas pool heaters are the commonly used pool heaters because of their longevity and low purchasing cost. Although gas pool heaters are popular, the least known fact about them is that they are not eco-friendly.

The last type of pool heater is the heat pumps. Heat pump pool heaters are best for your pool maintenance because of their low operational cost and high energy efficiency. Although heat pumps have high purchasing and installation cost, they are money-smart because of their long lifespan. There are two classifications of heat pump pool heaters. One is the air-source heat pump which uses air as the heat source and the other is geothermal heat pump which uses water to generate heat.

These are the common types of pool heaters. Some are still being developed and gaining popularity—just like the solar heaters. You just have to ensure that you stick to your objectives in doing pool maintenance. In doing so, you will not have a hard time choosing the best type of pool heater. You will also be able to ensure that you will be having the best purchase for your money.
