What Happens During Carpet Installation?

index

Are you thinking of getting carpet installation for your home? Certainly, having a carpet installed will instantly add beauty and appeal to your home. But how do you want it installed? Would you prefer a professional company to do the work or would you like to do it yourself?

Doing it yourself can save you a good deal of money. But sometimes, this isn’t really a good decision as you are not really an expert with carpet installation. Your money will just go to waste if you install the carpet the wrong way. Anyhow, let’s take a look at the process of installing the carpet and maybe with the right knowledge, you can better decide if you should call the professionals or do it alone.

1.       The Plan

The planning stage is when you plan for everything but the carpet installation project. Making a good plan is the secret to implementing it the right way. This is the time to prepare your materials, installation equipment and everything you need. Measure the room accurately so you can ensure that the carpet fits perfectly during installation.

If this is a one-off thing, you may want to consider renting the wall trimmer, seaming iron and seam cutter from a tool rental company. However, if you plan to call an installation company, they will have the tools needed.

2.       Remove Old Carpet

This applies to rooms with previously installed carpets. If you already have the plan, it’s time to remove the old carpets. Strip it all off and make sure that the unnecessary materials are gone. Take this chance to check out the floorboard and see if it needs any repairs. After removing everything, clean the surface and keep it dry. Make sure that you remove any debris before starting the installation.

3.       Pre-Installation

For the installation, tackless strips and nails are needed. Find the point where the floor and wall meet, then nail the tackless strips there. Make sure that the strips perfectly fit before nailing it. If it’s not, use a spacer. After the strips are nailed, the padding is placed. Cover all the spaces where you intend to install the carpets with the padding. Remove any excess padding to make sure the padding is aligned perfectly.

4.       Carpet Installation

It’s time to install the carpet and you can do this by flattening the edges of the surface. You can step on it or use a tool to help with flattening it. Remove the excess carpet but make sure to leave a little bit out because you will need to push it down the tackless strips.

So, do you still think that you can do carpet installation perfectly? If you’re having self-doubt after learning these steps, just call the experts on this one.

Carpet Installation for Beginners

images

After buying the new carpet you want to be installed in your home, your flooring retailer will recommend an installer to assist you with your carpet installation needs. Here are five things you have to be ready for:

  1. Professional estimators will come to your home to measure your floors. This is important so that the carpet installation team knows how much carpet to use, as well as what layout of carpeting will they follow. Right then and then, expect that professional carpet installation will be scheduled.  It is advisable that you are at home when the installers come to install the carpet.
  2. All types of floor covers should be installed over a structurally sound and properly installed subfloor. A subfloor that has been damaged by insects, water, or other factors should be repaired before the carpet installation takes place.
  3. The removal of your old carpet of installation is often part of your installer's service. However, you have to double check. Some installers charge an additional fee for hauling the old carpet and padding away.
  4. All your furniture will be removed from the room. It will be wise to remove all breakable items--like vases, lamps, collectibles, and dishes--before the installer arrives. Clear desktops, tabletops, and bookshelves too for safety. Furniture removal often comes with a price which is included in the quotation given to you prior to the installation. However, additional fees may be charged for large furniture including pianos, pool tables, and aquariums.
  5. Moldings are usually removed during carpet installation. Don’t worry because these will be reattached afterwards. Removal is necessary because there are some moldings, particularly quarter round, which are fragile. They may break during the carpet installation process. When this happens, the liability will fall on you and not on the carpet installer.

Last thing you need to remember: THE CARPET INSTALLATION TEAM PROVIDES THE SERVICES AND OTHER KNOW-HOWS, BUT YOU HAVE TO PROVIDE THE NECESSARY POWER FOR THIS. Installers need to use your electricity to make their electrical tools work. Also, they will typically use areas such as porches or patios to store some equipment.

Patience is a must for those who want to have new carpets installed. For more questions, contact the nearest retailer or installer in your area.
