A cabinet is not just a storage
box but it is an art piece that should serve as a focal point in any space or
room—be it in office, school, or home. Cabinets should make every space or room
stand out. To achieve a real outstanding cabinet, custom cabinetry is done.
Custom cabinetry is done by highly
skilled craftsmen through the use of various high-quality materials providing
world-class cabinets. Aside from the cabinet’s aesthetic factors, custom
cabinetry is also needed to fit specific design parameters. Custom cabinetry
will allow you to have cabinets that will fit specific spaces, have sizes you
desire, and have functions you specially designed. Below are some of the
comparisons between custom cabinets and factory/stock cabinets.
1. Material. Most factory-made cabinets are made of imitation of plastic wood or
particle board materials. Because of these raw materials, factory-made cabinets
are prone to flaking or the coming off of the particles from the particle
boards. Cheap glues are usually used in factories thus factory-made cabinets
are prone to falling apart. Unlike factory-made cabinets, custom cabinetry uses
hardwood which does not allow flaking and degradation. Generally, custom
cabinetry uses special materials to ensure the beauty and quality of the
product cabinet.
2. Finish. Factory-made cabinets have baked-on factory finish which enables the
wood to resist staining and breakdown. This finishing is important for cabinets
that are often used for food and liquid storage. In custom cabinetry, finishes
never fully cures. The finish may bulk up and become gummy as it reacts with
grime and food—which may lead to accidental peeling of the finish.
3. Quality Control. Cabinets are mass produced in factories. Though they undergo uniform
quality control process, manual inspection may miss a lot of quality checking
especially if the assessor checks many cabinets every day. It is the advantage
of custom cabinetry that the customer may personally check the progress of the
process and inspect the end-product cabinet. The customer may also add more
customization along the way. For quality control, custom cabinetry has the
advantage since every step is well assessed.
4. Cost. Custom cabinets may be more expensive than the factory-made
cabinets. Custom cabinetry may cost more due to high quality materials and for
the assurance that your own design is well executed. But you may also consider
buying low-quality factory-made products will cost you more if you have to
replace the cabinet every now and then. Custom cabinet is a good
investment—suits your taste, quality product, and will last longer.
Will you opt for stock or custom
cabinetry? The choice is yours.
