Solid
hardwood flooring is indeed very strong. But somehow, it lost its
luster when engineered wood flooring and laminated wood flooring were
born. Home owners preferred to use the newer versions of wood flooring.
So now that hardwood flooring is back, will homeowners change their
minds? Well, it seems like they have.
What’s
the difference between solid hardwood flooring and engineered wood
flooring anyway? Engineered wood flooring has a plywood base and the top
is hardwood. On the other hand, hardwood flooring is solid hardwood at
the base and top. But there are other types of woods that are used in
flooring installations as well but these are called softwoods like pine.
Where
can you install solid hardwood flooring? Because of the name, it’s easy
to think that this type of floor is indestructible. So people think
that they can install it anywhere in the home because it’s “solid” and
“hard.” However, you can’t really do this. Hardwood flooring can’t be
installed in places where there is moisture. It can destroy the wood
over time.
It will be ideal to use
this type of wood flooring in bedrooms, dining room or the family room.
While you can also use this in your kitchen, tiles are more preferred in
kitchens. There’s always the possibility of moisture and making the
floor wet in the kitchen. And since hardwood flooring is quite
expensive, you really don’t want to take the risk of destroying your
wood flooring anytime soon.
When it
comes to bathrooms, using hardwood flooring is definitely a big no-no.
The whole place has too much moisture and water that can easily seep
into the wood and destroy it. However, if you really like wood for the
kitchen and bathroom, it’s best to go with laminated flooring.
Talking
about aesthetics, solid hardwood flooring really adds visual value to
your home. Further, it increases the resale value of your home too. The
most preferred colors are red oak or maple as these are the most
attractive finishes. These are unfinished hardwood flooring which
requires sanding, staining and applying the top coat.
So
what do you think? Are you ready to go back to using hardwood flooring?
If you are investing in your home and want to sell it someday, you
should definitely make the investment now. You can’t go wrong with it.
