Legal Credit Restoration: Be Wary of Scams

When people in debt are so problematic about fixing their credit, they’ll easily believe what credit repair scammers will say. These people will say the right things to make you believe that with them, you can repair your credit. But beware, this is just a ploy to scam their way into getting money from you. And by then, you’ll be in more financial trouble than what you started with.

Legal credit restoration is a term used to simply show that there is indeed illegal credit repair that exists today. It helps people be more cautious about the credit restoration company they choose to work with. Here’s what to keep in mind to know if you are working with a legal credit repair company:

  • ·         The legal credit restoration company cannot make any false statements or misrepresent you.
  • ·         They cannot tell you to create a new identity or get new social security numbers or employer ID just to get new credit.
  • ·         They should give you a written contract that shows their services and its cost.
  • ·         They should provide you three copies of the contract. You have the right to terminate their services within three days.
  • ·         You have the right to dispute unverifiable and inaccurate items.

All these requirements are under the Credit Repair Organizations Act of 1996. The act was made to limit fraudulent practices of illegal credit repair companies that really have no intention of helping clients out.

Credit repair is indeed legal. There are just so many predators in the market today that want to victimize people who are already under debt. These people are more fragile, making them easy targets of scams. If you are having debt problems, one rule of thumb to remember is that “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”

Don’t easily believe credit restoration companies that tell you they can “instantly” repair your credit. This will never happen, not in a million years. Legal credit restoration can fix your credit, but it won’t happen overnight. So when someone tells you this, run away.

To be able to tell if the Brandon, FL company you’re talking to offers legal credit restoration, they will not speed up the process. They will discuss it with you thoroughly and make you understand what needs to happen. They will research your myFICO scores and will meticulously study your financial records. After careful evaluation, that is when the company provides you a plan of action.
