How Valve Body Builders Work

To be able to shift properly, the automatic transmission has to know how hard the engine is working. The manual valve is what the shift lever hooks up to. Depending on which gear is selected, the manual valve feeds hydraulic circuits that inhibits certain gears. On the other hand, the shift valves supply hydraulic pressure to the clutches and bands to engage each gear. The valve body of the transmission contains several shift valves. The shift valves determine when to shift from one gear to the next.

Valve body builders follow several criteria to ensure standard of service. The ability to determine the Valve control form required by the type of valve body available. The control form specifies the type of control action for the valve assembly. There are six different control forms. Form VB specifies the valve body only. Then, make sure that your valve body builders are able to help you in determining the required valve body. Make sure that they are able to explain that the valve body that meets the application criteria. One that is selected has a pressure rating equal to or greater than the fluid pressure. If the selected actuator is a spring return type, the valve can be configured normally open.

Special attention must be given to selecting proper valve materials.  Generally, critical services such as plumbing and heating shutoff valves which require the use of threaded bonnet gate valves where possible on smaller lines. Critical services involve applications which could seriously endanger persons or property with piping or valve failure. Valve body builders act on incompatibility and deterioration. They test each individual solenoid and graph the performance on computer to ensure the solenoid meets the required specifications. As they check and test each individual valve, they run the assembled valve bodies through complete series of shifting tests and as an end result, the valve body that’s ready to work.
