Prepping Up for Your Swedish Massage Session

Swedish massage is a relaxing experience. The body enjoys the soothing massage strokes that give relief from sore and tired muscles.

It is best to be prepared if you are planning to get a Swedish massage any time soon, especially if it is your first Swedish massage session. Preparation helps get the anxiety or discomfort off your mind; feelings which are normal for first-timers.

Here are some tips that will help you prep-up for your first ever session of Swedish massage:

  1. Set an appointment with a massage clinic. While most walk-in clients are welcome in massage parlors and spa, it is better to be sure about your slot. Walking in a spa that can accommodate can cause heightened tension and stress.
  2. Do not drink liquor before your appointment. Alcohol dehydrates the muscles, making them weak. Also, alcohol contributes to high toxic levels in the blood which Swedish massage seeks to reduce. Avoid caffeine if you can, too. Caffeine affects the body’s nervous system, which is the main focus of the massage.
  3. Eat something before going to the massage clinic. You will not be able to fully relax if you feel hungry. Do not eat too much, however. An overly full stomach will be painful to lie on once you settle on the massage table.
  4. Hydrate yourself before the session. Like other forms of massage, Swedish massage causes you to perspire as the toxins are released from your body.
  5. Take a shower before you leave home. Swedish massage is an unclothed form of massage. You do not have to feel conscious, though, because massage therapists leave the room as you disrobe. They will assist you as you lie face up or down on the massage table under a sheet. Only the body area that is being massaged will be uncovered at any given time.
  6. If you have health conditions like hypertension, heart problems, epilepsy, diabetes, etc., ask permission from your doctor first.

These are the basic tips that will help prep you up for your session of Swedish massage. Additional tips include bringing extra towel, clothes, and other personal materials (hairstyling products, make-up, etc.) to help you fix yourself in case you are to go someplace else after the treatment. Also, you should notify the massage clinic if you have to cancel a massage appointment. Notify them ahead of time. Some clinics charge full rates even if you do not show up or even if you cancel your appointment in less than 24 hours.
