Commercial and Residential Fire Safety: Saving Lives and Money

Safety First! For commercial and residential structures, a fire is the most dreaded accident they can face. Everything can disappear to ashes in a matter of hours. Commercial and residential fire safety can give you the assurance of not spending much on repairs and replacement of fire extinguishers and other safety devices. Fire safety starts with knowing the right information used at the right time. Fire safety equipment includes the detectors and fire extinguishers at different types. Learn more about fire safety and prevention in the article below.

Having a complete set of fire safety equipment at home or in your establishment will cost you a bit on your primary expenses but will save you a lot in the long run. Fire extinguishers play a major role in your home; there is a wide variety of fire extinguishers you can choose from. So learn the basics on fire prevention and know the correct fire safety equipment.

The first thing you should consider in fire safety is the installation of detectors; you can easily prevent the spread of fire when you are warned. Next will be the fire extinguisher installation. Extinguishers are like the first aid in fire safety.  When the fire starts small, there is no need for you to panic and call the fire station and put it off. Choosing a fire extinguisher for your home and establishment is not that easy, when electrical wires are involved, not every portable fire extinguisher is appropriate. There are six classes of materials that induce fire. Class A: papers, wood, plastic, etc; B: flammable liquids; C: Flammable gases; D: Metals: Electrical apparatus; and F: cooking oils and fat. Not every portable fire extinguisher or rechargeable fire extinguisher is appropriate for all classes.

  • Water Fire extinguishers- these are portable fire extinguishers only used for class A fires.
  • Foam Fire Extinguishers- these extinguishers are a bit more expensive compared to water extinguishers but can be used for classes A and B fires. These extinguishers are not recommended for fires involving electrical apparatus.
  • Dry powder fire extinguishers- this type is the most recommended type of portable fire extinguisher as it can put out fire under the classes A, B and C. However, the downside of this is that it is dangerous to put out the dire without isolating.

These are just a few of the types of safety equipment needed in a home or an establishment. The upgrade of fire safety equipment will save a lot of money and lives especially now with rechargeable fire extinguishers. Replacing unused fire extinguishers will soon be a thing of the past and we leave less waste and save the environment in the long run.
