Your Guide to Hookahs

Looking for your first hookah pipe can be a bit overwhelming. With so many varieties of hookahs available, it can be a chore sorting through all the different kinds to find the new hookah that is right for you. There are so many different factors to consider such as price, height, weight, type, number of hoses, and style.

In general, modern hookahs are constructed with lighter weight material and no visible weld lines. They are commonly composed of threaded components that are screwed together, which can also be easily unscrewed to fit into carrying cases. Some of the higher end modern hookahs have better finish work than traditional hookahs, because they mix chromium into the final plating stage. Traditional hookahs are generally larger and constructed with heavier metals. They also tend to use combinations of metals, such as stainless steel with copper and brass. Modern hookahs typically use mostly stainless steel and may mix in other elements for the finish. The best traditional hookahs use brass around critical points, such as the hose port and check valve. The major advantages of using brass in these points comes from the brazing process in which the brass combines with the steel. The brazing process adds a lot of strength to these weld points. However, other hookah buyers love this aspect to traditional hookahs; they feel like they own a unique hand-made antiquity.

The biggest danger to the quality of your hookahs is exposure to oxygen. The sugars that provide the smooth flavor of the smoke simply can't hold moisture when exposed to air. Your hookahs should remain in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. When properly stored, your tobacco can last as long as 6 months. Some people like to refrigerate or freeze their tobacco, while others strongly recommend that you do not.

The last but important factor to consider is price. Some people are looking for a cheap hookah pipe that is functional, while some others want a limited edition hookah that awes anyone who sees it. Generally speaking, the larger a hookah is, the more expensive it is.
