Easy Swimming Pool Maintenance Tips to Do Yourself

How much did you spend on installing your pool? Surely, it’s an expensive investment and you’d want to keep it in good condition for as long as you can. The great thing about having a swimming pool at home is it provides relaxation and recreation. On top of that, a swimming pool adds value to your home.

Swimming pool maintenance service can get expensive too, but it is necessary to make sure that your pool is properly maintained. However, you don’t need to give the professionals a call immediately as there are some pool maintenance tips that you can do on your own.

You need to put in some work to learn about swimming pool maintenance so you don’t have to rely on professionals to do all the work. This can save you a lot of money if you can do regular checkups and some tweaking by yourself. Furthermore, maintaining the pool is beneficial for the health of the whole family. What are the easy swimming pool maintenance tips you can do?

  • Check the chlorine level. The ideal chlorine level is between 1ppm and 3ppm. There is a tool you can use to check the level. Check every day if you can. Once a week, you can do a shock to your pool to kill organisms. This is done by raising the chlorine level between 6ppm and 10ppm.
  • Check the pH level. The ideal pH level of your pool is between 7.2 and 7.6. Check every day if possible. If you have a pH level above 7.8, this can cause a problem in your filter as well as the efficiency of your chlorine. As for a lower pH level, this can corrode the pipes in your pool and can easily consume the chlorine you have.
  • Check alkalinity and calcium levels. Alkalinity directly affects the water pH level while the calcium affects water hardness. You must have chemical testers to be able to adjust these chemical levels. As a rule of thumb, add the chemical to the water.
  • Clean the skimmer basket weekly. If you have the time, changing it more frequently is better. When cleaning the skimmer basket, remove any dirt and debris. This assures that the basket will work efficiently.
  • During the summer, run the filter around 6 to 8 hours a day. During the winter, run in for 2 to 4 hours a day.
  •  Backwash your filter to avoid any debris accumulation. Keep your filter clean to keep it working efficiently and lengthen its lifespan.
  • Vacuum the pool to prevent build-up of any solids on the floor. Brush the floor as well as the sides of the pool to prevent algae build-up. Regular cleaning will prevent discoloration of your pool tiles.

These easy swimming pool maintenance tips are pretty basic but very helpful in maintaining your pool. Learn yourself and talk to professionals to learn more about proper pool maintenance.
