Fixing Hair Color Gone Wrong

A new hair color brings energy to the otherwise dull look of a person. As a result, more and more people change their hair color at home. What these people do not know is that hair color treatments are very delicate hairstyling procedures; a single mistake can leave your hair damaged for life.

Mistakes That Happen With DIY Hair Color Kits

It takes years of training and experience before a hair salon stylist can be called a hair color specialist. The expertise of these professionals cannot be matched by any home hair coloring kit with claims of “easy application”.

The most common mistake committed by people who color their hair at home is uneven application. One part is too light, while the others are too dark. This is because it is hard to do proper hair sectioning on yourself. No matter how many mirrors you use, there will still be areas of the head that will be hard for you to reach.

Fixing Mis-colored Hair

The only way to fix problems of this nature is to undergo hair color correction from a reputable hair salon. Hair color correction is normally done in five to six sessions with the aim of  restoring hair to its original color or at the very least, repair the color damage so that the hair will look pleasant to the eyes again.

Too light hair color is fixed by applying a darker tone until the right shade is achieved. Other hair color correction solution for this problem is to apply a semi-permanent or temporary hair color until the time for touch-ups come. When the roots start to grow, permanent color with a dark shade can be used.

For those people who had their hair colored too dark, hair salon professionals use color removers. These hair color removers are available over the counter, but you certainly won’t want to further your hair damage by doing hair color correction on your own.

Hair color correction is a common hair salon service. The cost is varying though. It depends on the extent of work to be done and the policy of the hair salon. Some salons correct their mistakes for free.

To limit the extent of hair damage, you may also won’t want to avoid further hairstyling until the end of the whole hair color correction process. Or if you can, stay away from any hairstyling methods until your hair grows back to a healthier length.
