Underarm Waxing Tips for Newbs

Shaving is an easy and painless way of hair removal, however, the results are uncertain and the skin is often damaged due to slight razor burns or small cuts. Waxing, on the other hand, yields better results for as long as a month, depending on how hairy you are.

Before you wax…

You need to have a certain volume and length of hair before you hit the wax center. Underarm waxing requires a certain hair length to enable the wax to hold on to the hair strands, making the stripping easier. You need to have about ¼ of an inch or longer to make sure you strip out more hair from the roots. When the hair is too long, trimming will be done first.

Wax on, wax off.

You can choose from different types of wax for underarm waxing. The best method to go about underarm waxing is the use of hot wax, involves heat (Don’t worry. It won’t burn), which makes application easier and will open the pores to make the whole process almost pain-free. Preparations such as soaking your armpits with a hot towel before underarm waxing can help by softening the hair and making hair easier to pull. Make sure to dry off well before underarm waxing.

Soothing the skin after waxing…

People’s thresholds differ from one another so your level of comfort depends on your affinity with pain. For first timers, underarm waxing can be a great experience with the right waxing center. If you have a very low threshold for pain, two doses of ibuprofen 30 minutes before underarm waxing will lessen any discomfort but professional waxing centers have their way of soothing the skin immediately after stripping off the wax.

The process…

The proper way of hair removal is important as the results rely on it. Your underarms are embedded with lymph nodes and sensitive nerve endings as well. The first step in underarm waxing is to apply the wax to the direction of your hair growth and ripping them off in the opposite direction. The more you wax, the lesser you’ll feel since hair will eventually grow finer.

Post waxing to-dos…

Application of astringents, lotions, oils, etc. is a big no-no after waxing. A cooling moisturizer is the recommended regimen for the pain and the redness after the waxing process. Make sure to exfoliate after underarm waxing to avoid ingrown hairs.
